E=mc²

( a random thought! )

Well, let’s go down through the lanes of science. I know the title must seem like it’s going to be a science blog, or something related but let me make myself clear that its nothing of that sort. Now first let’s focus on the title, doesn’t it sound somewhat familiar to you? I mean we all have heard about it at least once in our lives. Yes, the theory of relativity, by Albert Einstein, now let’s view it through a fresh perspective.

Recently, while watching a science documentary on albert Einstein’s life, I learned many new and interesting facts about this theory as well. but what grabbed my attention was the word “relativity” itself. I pondered over it for a while, and I realized that relativity, or the idea of being relative is universal. The exact definition of this word is “the state of being dependent on or determined in nature, value or quality by relation to something else”, in other words, the concept of being relativeness.Now as we know from the actual theory it’s about time travel, speed, and light etc., but here I am going to throw the light mainly upon my focus word (relativity). When we look around us, of course not on the materialistic stuff, we find that almost everything that matters in this world is relative. Relativity is actually a universal concept. We have climate, greenery, emotions, growth, decline, life, death, hunting, and being hunted, etc. aren’t they all relative in some or the other ways. let’s elaborate.Let’s begin with the topic which itself acts like a catalyst in many conversations around the world, guess what? Yes! The weather XD. so okay, let’s take the example of weather. And I guess the simplest one to understand my perspective. We all know weather is something which isn’t always good for everyone around the globe, right? As a hot weather, isn’t always appreciated or depreciated by all equally, while it can bring life and happiness to some, such as when summers arrive the glaciers melt, and there’s plenty of fresh water , and the crops flourish, however, in summers only the rivers might dry up, and thus it becomes a curse for the fishes and other aquatic organisms.

But ok, I’m not going to into the physical, aspect of this discussion. I’m going to take you to the context which has been the reason of me writing this blog, i.e., humans and relativity. Yes, for much to my amaze they don’t understand the concept of things and stuff being relative. Humans just prefer focusing on the events and changes which only effect than, rather than accepting the fact that not everything is absolute. Nowadays, even when a person loves someone, they forget that love can be relative. One may not get the same amount of love which he/she has given to another person. Also, it can be possible that your love doesn’t actually feel like it, maybe for the other person its something suffocating, or something more of liking. Similarly, emotions like sadness and happiness are also relative. In fact, at times to each other. for instance, if someone is happy, that doesn’t make sure that people around him will also be happy. And that’s where the issues arise. The inability of humans to comprehend the practicality of relativeness. The issue here is that we just don’t accept the changes outside our own little circle, sometimes even within it!

A new perspective on e=mc²
A tiny world inside brain.

But what’s this all about? Quite mind-boggling right? Well, let me put it simply.

  • Love – if you are loving someone, just love! Don’t expect the same in return. because that’s how things are. And that’s how things should be taken. One must accept the other person as a unique individual, and that brings in the concept of relativity. That a feeling like love can also be relative.
  • Happiness – this is also another good example to understand relativity. Well, ill just say it more like a warning, DO NOT consider your happiness, to be universal. It may be possible that your happy moments are sad ones for someone else. for e.g. A businessman might be happy to bag certain project, but the contender who lost the same could be sad. And the ability to accept the relative nature of happiness is what keeps someone down to earth and righteous. Also, just because you are happy that does not mean, you expect others to be as happy as you. Again, ability to understand relativity as I consider comes with the ability to accept individuality.
  • Sadness – this is also a rather relative term. One must never consider his/her own state of grief as a moment for everyone to be in that state of mind. You cannot make others’ unhappy, because of your own foul mood. one should have that control, and understanding of emotions.
  • Maturity/Behaviour – well, parents can relate to this the most, I guess. Often, we have seen that parents expect their children to behave in a certain manner, they usually ask them “to grow up!” or “they’re not kids!” well…. okay so just because you have attained a certain age and you don’t get the chance to be the childish self, that doesn’t mean being mature is what everyone should do! Even kids? That’s not right! Also to make it more clear, sometimes there are certain grown up individuals who live their lives as freely as kids, they are just so lively and gay, while there are other individuals of almost similar age group who cant handle the childish behavior .but I think that’s a matter of choice behaviors, maturity, childishness, way of life etc. are relative aspects.

But this does not mean we can apply the knowledge of relativity to every other situation in our lives, because even relativity isn’t universal. Also as Albert Einstein said , “relativity applies to physics but not ethics” . You can’t decide to be relatively good or relatively kind. You, from your side have to be nuetral in your actions , then other’s can decide if for them your actions are good or not. This shows that relativity is mainly observed from the output, rather than input.

Now after this long rant about some super random stuff, just because of a silly thought which came to my head one lousy afternoon. I hope you all have at least a tiny bit of take away from this.
