A (not so) fairy tale
Once upon a time,
There was young damsel
Born in an elite family,
Full of culture and traditions,
Cinderella was her name.
But her home wasn’t much
Of a happy place for her.
She had a very strict step mother,
Who always bound her in
The chains of societal norms,
Related to a woman’s appearance.
Sometimes Cinderella used to wonder,
If her own mother was alive,
Would she have treated her the same way .
Even her own father didn’t stopped
His second wife from putting
His only daughter through all the torture.
Cinderella was forced to wear
Those bright shiny clothes,
Tight corsets, bold makeup
All this to attract a wealthy suitor.
However, Cinderella was a free soul
She dreamt of freedom and right to choose.
She wanted to live carefree,
She wanted to go out and
See life in it’s raw and true glory,
Away from the suffocating, baseless
Rules and regulations of being a girl.
One fine day,
Cinderella from her window
Saw a group of hippies.
Clad in bright, printed clothes,
Some were bald, some had braids,
Hairs in different rugged fashion,
Having tattoos all over.
They were walking down the street,
Laughing and talking,
Singing and dancing,
As if accepting their true nature.
Unknown to the fact that
Someone was watching all their actions.
It was Cinderella;
Her heart had just witnessed,
The dream it will run after.
The kind of life, she always wanted
But didn’t knew If it ever existed
Now she could picture it in her brain.
After that day, Cinderella always wondered
Why is she bound to live a life so lifelessly.
Why was she forced to wear suffocating clothes,
Eat particular tasteless diet?
Display false emotions?
Behave well mannered and delicate,?
And never showing her true character?
All these questions filled Cinderella’s thoughts.
One silent evening,
When her parents had gone out of town
To attend some business dinner.
She was sitting ideally in her room,
With window open, and staring at the moon,
While smoking a cigarette,
Which she had kept hidden
In her bookshelf.
She could hear faint sound of music
Coming from somewhere outskirts of town.
Music as that of some party going on.
It was past midnight, she was smoking
And lamenting on her boring life,
When she saw an old lady,
Standing at her window,
Peeking inside, and staring at the cigarette
In Cinderella’s hand.
Sensing her focus, Cinderella offered her,
And she gladly took one puff,
To which Cinderella asked.. “who are you lady?”
The lady replied “I’m the hippy godmother”
I fly around, and bless the free souls. But why are u sulking all alone dear!”
Cinderella told her all about her life and emotions.
To which the hippy godmother
being happy and high that she was ,
Offered Cinderella to come along with her,
To the rave party going on at the outskirts.
Cinderella happily agreed and
The hippy lady, magically dressed her up
In beautiful bohemian dress,
Vibrant make up, and hairs done is braids.
And took her to the party,
Filled with all the hippy fellows,
Getting high on marijuana and other stuff.
And since then, Cinderella never returned back home
For she accepted her place between those
Lively young and colourful minds.
